Character and Citizenship Education (CME,NE,Pupil welfare)

Area of Focus

The focus of our Singapore education system has recently been shifted towards “Students- centric, Values driven” phase. Character & Citizenship Education (CCE) curriculum has also been introduced to bring about the emphasis for this phase. The goal of CCE is to inculcate values and build competencies in our pupils to develop them to be good individuals and useful citizens.
Hence, Civics and Moral Education (CME), National Education (NE), Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), and Values-In-Action (VIA) have been incorporated into the CCE curriculum. The distinct feature in CCE is the introduction of the 3 big ideas: Identity, Relationship and Choices.
In Lakeside Primary,   we plan and develop school based CCE programs that focus on fostering community spirit in our pupils. We believe that this would help pupils to internalize the 3 big ideas as the programs would help pupils to understand the following:
  • Identity: Who am I in my family /school / community and nation?
  • Relationship: Who are around me in my family / school / community and nation?
  • Choices: What can I do for my family / school / community and nation? How can I contribute for others’ well-being?
