Hari Raya Celebration 2019
This year, Hari Raya Puasa falls on 5th June 2019, which is during the school holidays. The Muslims were still observing fasting when the school assembly talk was conducted, hence the assembly talk focused on informing students of the significance of the fasting month or Ramadan and how it is related to the celebration of Eid.
The assembly talk opened with a short yet informative video that explained the meaning of Ramadan and how the month is being observed by Muslims all around the world. This followed by a fun mass quiz where students answered questions related to the video using their ‘Traffic Light’ fast kit. To help the non-Muslims understand the experiences of their Muslims schoolmates, questions by the curious non-Muslim students on Ramadan are recorded and Muslim students answered these questions by sharing their experience fasting while continuing with their daily routines.
As students learnt about Ramadan, they were also given a glimpse on how a typical Muslim family in Singapore celebrates Hari Raya Puasa through a short skit. The assembly closed with Hari Raya well wishes from students, teaching and non-teaching staff of Lakeside Primary School. Students truly enjoyed learning about Ramadan and Hari Raya through the interesting and informative assembly talk.
