Assessment Matters
In line with MOE’s direction on shifting the focus from academic grades and tests to self-
directed learning and developing 21st century competencies, our school has removed
all mid-year examinations so that student will have more space to develop their
interests, and to focus on their learning and less on marks.
Our assessments for the year will comprise mainly the termly reviews and end-of-year
examinations for Primary 3 to Primary 5 and preliminary examinations for Primary 6.
There will be no tests and exams for Primary 1 and Primary 2.
Please refer to the attached annexes for more details of the learning outcomes/
assessments for the respective levels.
EXAMINATION POLICY (FOR PRIMARY 3 TO 6)
Examination is part of teaching and learning to help the students understand their
strengths and weaknesses in a subject better. It is important to focus on building on
their strengths and closing the learning gaps, rather than just the results.
- Absence from Examination
There is no make-up for examinations students missed*. - In alignment with national examination guidelines, students who are on medical leave or are unwell with fever or flu-like symptoms should not sit for any school- based examination.
- The table below shows the type of absences in the Report Book should a student not take any examination.
- Late-coming
- The principal will have the discretion to decide if a student who is late is allowed to sit for an examination. Students who are late for the examination and allowed to sit for the examination may not be given any extra time.
Code | Reason for Absence | Implications |
AB | Student does not have a valid medical certificate. | • Student will get ‘0’ mark for the paper/component. • He/She will not be considered for any academic-based awards. |
MC | Student has a valid medical certificate. | • The component/paper missed will not be used for the computation of overall marks. • Even though marks are not considered, students will take the paper/component when they return to school and feedback on their performance will be given. |
VR | Student has a valid reason (with official supporting documents) approved by the principal. |
* For purpose of promotion and Subject-based banding, other factors, including students’ daily work, termly reviews and teachers’ recommendations would be taken into consideration.
* Students who missed the P6 Preliminary Examination with valid reason may be allowed to sit for the exam at a later date as make up.
